The incumbent Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has been declared winner of the 2026 governorship election, securing a second term in office on the platform of the Accord Party.

Adeleke polled 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who secured 444,815 votes. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished third with 17,180 votes.

The result gives Adeleke a margin of 66,252 votes over Oyebamiji.

The election was held across the state's 30 local government areas, with results uploaded progressively to the Independent National Electoral Commission's Result Viewing Portal (IReV) before the completion of the collation process. Reports indicated that more than 95 per cent of the expected results had been uploaded as collation progressed.

Adeleke's victory comes after a closely watched contest in which the incumbent sought to retain power against a strong APC challenge and an ADC campaign backed by prominent political figures, including former Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

The APC, however, recorded notable victories in some areas, including Aregbesola's polling unit in Ilesa East, where Oyebamiji polled 256 votes against Adeleke's 43 and Najeem Salaam's 13 votes.

At the local government level, Adeleke also recorded significant performances, including 18,458 votes in Ejigbo, where Oyebamiji polled 16,195 and Salaam 5,053.

The governor had earlier called on INEC to ensure transparency and protect the integrity of the people's votes during the collation exercise, while commending voters and security agencies for their conduct during the election.

With the declaration, Adeleke is set to continue as governor of Osun State for another four-year term, subject to any legal challenge that may arise from the election.

The outcome marks another significant chapter in Osun's politically competitive electoral history, where governorship results have frequently faced legal scrutiny after elections.
