Former Osun State Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola has dismissed claims by Governor Ademola Adeleke that he personally bought him a new car before the former governor endorsed the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, Oyinlola described Adeleke’s statement as “far from the truth” and a “sad development.”

According to the former governor, the vehicle was provided by the Osun State Government in line with an existing law enacted by the State House of Assembly. The law, he explained, makes provision for certain benefits for former governors, including the replacement of their official vehicles every four years.

“It wasn’t Adeleke that gave me a car but the Osun State Government. It is a law,” Oyinlola said. He added that the governor still owes him three more vehicles under the same arrangement and that other entitlements such as security personnel, drivers and domestic support are also covered by the law.

Oyinlola rejected any suggestion that he had begged for the vehicle or that it was a personal gift from Adeleke. He noted that he had been buying cars since he was 21 years old and arrived at the Government House with his own convoy when he became governor.

The exchange comes days after Adeleke publicly accused Oyinlola of disloyalty, claiming that the former governor complained of not having a car, collected a new one from him, and later moved from the African People’s Movement (APM) to the APC while refusing to support his re-election bid. Adeleke had described Oyinlola as a “paperweight” politician.

Oyinlola, who has publicly endorsed APC’s Bola Oyebamiji for Saturday’s governorship election, maintained that his decision was based on conviction and the interest of the state, while insisting he remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The public disagreement between the two political figures adds another layer to the already tense atmosphere in Osun State as the governorship election approaches on 15 August 2026.
