Hon. Babatunde Komolafe Festus, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Osun State House of Assembly seat in Atakumosa East/West Local Government Area, was on Thursday reportedly apprehended by personnel of the Nigerian Navy in his hometown of Ifewara.

Videos and photographs circulating on social media show naval officers surrounding a green campaign vehicle branded with the image of President Bola Tinubu and the word “Vote.” A firearm can be seen on the ground near the vehicle during the operation.

According to the posts, which first gained traction on Thursday afternoon, Komolafe was arrested while allegedly in possession of the gun. The reports have not yet been independently confirmed by the Nigerian Navy or the Osun State Police Command.

The incident occurred two days before the Osun State governorship election scheduled for Saturday, 15 August 2026, at a time of heightened political tension and increased security deployment across the state.
