The Student Union Government of Osun State College of Health Technology, Ilesa has confirmed that no student or lecturer was shot or killed following reports of tension in the area.

In a detailed message to students on Tuesday, 11th of August, 2026, the SUG President, Distinguished Senator Comrade Badiru Rohees Olawale (Moore), stated that student leaders carried out physical verification across major residential areas and hostels. According to him, as of the time of the update, no student had been shot and no lecturer had been harmed.

Comrade Moore used the opportunity to call for calm and responsibility among students. He urged them to remain indoors, avoid gathering in large numbers outside their hostels without reason, and desist from circulating unverified information that could heighten fear and tension on campus.

“We made sure we verify that as at now, no student was shot, no lecturer was shot either. Stay home and help us to maintain the peace and sanity we need in this chaotic era,” the SUG President said.

He further warned students against posting unverified news or jokes that could create panic, stressing that such actions only worsen an already fragile situation.

Alongside the safety clarification, Comrade Moore announced that the College Examinations for the 2025/2026 academic session have been postponed indefinitely. He explained that the decision was taken due to the prevailing political tensions in the area and would remain in force until the situation improves.

Students were advised to use the period to intensify their preparations for the eventual conclusion of the examinations. He also reminded them to always check official school platforms first thing every morning before leaving their hostels, so they remain properly informed.

An official internal memo issued by the Registrar of the college, M.A. Afolabi, on 11 August corroborated the postponement. The memo, addressed to all staff and students, stated that the examinations had been postponed and that the college remains open for other academic and administrative activities.

The development comes at a highly sensitive period in Osun State. The governorship election is scheduled to hold on Saturday, 15 August 2026, and political activities across the state have intensified in recent days.

Ilesa and other parts of the state have witnessed heightened security concerns, with reports of political disagreements, cult-related clashes, and mutual accusations between major political camps. Security agencies have increased their presence in several areas, while residents and institutions have been advised to exercise caution.

For students of the Osun State College of Health Technology, the combination of political tension and security concerns has created an atmosphere of uncertainty. Many students had already begun leaving for their various homes, while others remained on campus under instruction to stay indoors.

The Student Union Government has positioned itself as a stabilising voice, prioritising the safety of students and the prevention of misinformation at a time when rumours can easily spread and escalate tension.

Comrade Badiru Rohees Olawale (Moore) appealed to students to cooperate fully with the directives issued by both the college management and the SUG. He emphasised that maintaining peace and order within the campus community remains a collective responsibility, especially in the days leading up to the election.
