The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, formerly known as the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, has commenced a total and comprehensive strike with immediate effect.

Terseer Abari, the chairperson of the union, announced the industrial action in a statement issued on Wednesday, noting that the decision was reached during a congress held on August 12, 2026.

According to the union, the strike action was triggered by the failure of the university authorities to fully implement all components of the 2025 agreement between the Federal Government and ASUU.

The union stated that the university had only paid two out of the four expected components of the agreement to date, specifically the Consolidated Academic Staff Salaries and the Earned Academic Allowance.

ASUU explained that the remaining two components, which are the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA) and the Professorial Allowance, had only been paid for January and February 2026. Furthermore, the union disclosed that only 39 percent of the CATA for March 2026 had been disbursed, leaving members underpaid.

Abari appealed to the appropriate authorities to clear all outstanding salary arrears owed to members so that academic activities can resume on the campus.
