The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D, has commended the successful rescue of five students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, who were abducted from their off-campus residence.

In a statement by the Zonal Coordinator, Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode, the association applauded the Ogun State Government, the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies for the coordinated operation that secured the students’ release.

NANS also acknowledged the efforts of its National Secretary-General, Comrade Oladimeji Uthman, as well as the Director of Sports of the Southwest Zone, Comrade Oluwasegun Oluwaremilekun Kuruyo, and the Chairman of NANS Ogun Joint Campus Committee, Comrade Olabode Faruq, for their roles during the crisis.

While celebrating the rescue, the association warned that repeated attacks on students around tertiary institutions in Ogun State demand urgent and lasting security reforms.

NANS called for permanent security patrols around campuses, stronger intelligence gathering, improved surveillance of hostels and off-campus residences, faster emergency response systems, and closer collaboration between security agencies and student leaders.

The association maintained that the safety of Nigerian students must remain a priority and should not be treated as negotiable.
