A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Dele Momodu, has stated that the August 15, 2026, governorship election in Osun State is primarily a contest between incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke and President Bola Tinubu.

Momodu made this disclosure on Wednesday while appearing as a guest on Channels Television’s current affairs program, Politics Today. He asserted that the All Progressives Congress lacks the political capacity to match Governor Adeleke within the state.

According to him, the genuine political battle lines are drawn between the incumbent governor and the overarching influence of the Tinubu-led presidency. He maintained that even actors within the ruling party recognize the incumbent's strength on the ground.

“The battle in Osun is not a contest between Adeleke and the APC; it is between Adeleke and President Bola Tinubu. APC is no match for Adeleke in Osun,” Momodu said during the interview. He added that despite political noise from opponents, key figures within the presidency are aware of the political realities in the state.

Momodu's remarks come as political activities reach a peak in Osun State, with major political parties intensifying their campaigns ahead of Saturday's electoral showdown. Governor Adeleke is seeking a second term in office, facing a strong challenge from the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
