A former governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, Mr Adebayo Adedamola, popularly known as Fryo, has endorsed Governor Ademola Adeleke for the August 15, 2026 governorship election.

Adedamola was earlier nominated by a faction of the PDP for the poll and secured 919 out of 957 votes at the party's primary held in Osogbo, the state capital. However, his name did not appear on the final list of candidates released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Speaking at a press conference in Osogbo on Wednesday alongside his supporters, Adedamola stated that his decision to back the governor followed extensive consultations, sober reflection, and a careful assessment of the state's political climate.

“I have arrived at this decision based on my assessment of the political circumstances in our state and my conviction that, at this particular moment, this is the direction I am prepared to support,” Adedamola said.

He urged all PDP members, supporters, and party structures across the state who believed in his leadership to support Governor Adeleke at the upcoming gubernatorial poll.

While expressing pride in his participation in the party's primary and thanking those who backed his candidacy, Adedamola noted that politics requires making difficult decisions during critical periods and prioritizing the collective interest of the people over personal ambition.

“Politics is not only about contesting elections. Politics is also about understanding the realities of the moment, making difficult decisions when necessary, and putting the larger interest of our people above personal ambition,” he added.

Adedamola confirmed that he had already communicated his position to party leaders, members, and key stakeholders across Osun State.

Ahead of Saturday's ballot, the PDP chieftain appealed for a peaceful election, urging political leaders, candidates, and their supporters to shun violence, intimidation, and hate speech.

“Osun State is bigger than any individual. Osun State is bigger than any political party. And Osun State is certainly bigger than any election. We must allow the people to exercise their democratic rights freely and peacefully,” he said.
