Dangote Cement Plc, Ibese Plant, and the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have strengthened their partnership to enhance road safety and general safety advocacy in Ogun State. The collaboration was reaffirmed during a courtesy visit by the newly deployed Ogun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, and his management team to the Ibese plant.
The visit focused on discussing strategies to improve road safety awareness, driver competence, and regulatory compliance. Corps Commander Ogunjobi commended Dangote Cement for its consistent support and contributions to road safety initiatives, recognizing the company as a reliable corporate partner due to its commitment to safety and responsible transportation practices.
“Dangote Cement has remained a dependable partner of the Federal Road Safety Corps over the years, and we deeply appreciate the support we have continued to receive from the company,” Ogunjobi stated. He emphasized that organizations with extensive logistics operations, like Dangote Cement, understand the critical importance of road safety, providing a strong foundation for enhanced collaboration.
Ogunjobi highlighted that road safety is a collective responsibility requiring engagement with various stakeholders, including private sector organizations and transport operators. He proposed the establishment of an FRSC Special Marshal Unit within the Ibese Plant to foster safety consciousness among employees and drivers, support specialized driver training, and conduct regular sensitization campaigns to reduce road crashes.
The Sector Commander assured Dangote Cement of the FRSC's readiness to provide technical support, capacity building, and safety enlightenment initiatives. “Our doors remain open. We are committed to supporting Dangote Cement through continuous engagement, capacity building and safety enlightenment initiatives that will ultimately benefit not just the company but all road users across Ogun State,” he added.
Responding, the Plant Director of Dangote Cement Plc, Ibese Plant, Mr. Ayyagri Subbaraidu, described the FRSC as a critical stakeholder and commended the Corps for its dedication to preserving lives. He noted that safety is a central pillar of Dangote Cement’s operational philosophy and long-term growth strategy, aligning with its Vision 2030 which emphasizes responsible operations, sustainability, and stakeholder collaboration.
“The Federal Road Safety Corps plays a strategic role in our operations because transportation is a vital component of our business. We therefore recognize and appreciate the tremendous work being done by the Corps in ensuring safer roads and protecting lives,” Subbaraidu said. He welcomed the proposals from the Sector Commander, particularly regarding driver education and safety awareness, stating that these initiatives align with the company’s commitment to continuous improvement in health, safety, and operational excellence.
“Dangote Cement remains ready to work hand in hand with the FRSC in advancing road safety campaigns, improving driver competence, enhancing compliance, and creating safer roads for all. We look forward to expanding our collaboration for the mutual benefit of our organizations and the communities we serve,” Subbaraidu concluded.
