Nigerian juju and highlife musician Iyun Janet Oluwatoyosi Ajilore, popularly known as Saint Janet, has died after a brief illness.

The news was first shared on Sunday by publisher and socialite Otunba Femi Davies, who announced that the singer passed away in the early hours of 2 August 2026.

Saint Janet rose to prominence with a distinctive style that blended highlife and juju rhythms with explicit, socially unfiltered lyrics. Her work, particularly tracks associated with the Faaji Plus series, earned her both a loyal following at parties and social events and repeated sanctions from regulatory bodies, including the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) and the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Despite the bans, she continued to perform at private functions, maintaining a reputation for energetic stage presence and a unique approach that often mixed gospel openings with candid, sometimes controversial commentary on everyday life and relationships. Fans affectionately referred to her as “Mama Yabis” and the “General Overseer of Saint Bottles Cathedral.”

Details of funeral arrangements have not yet been announced by her family.
