The Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have committed to deepening their collaboration with the Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board (OGMPWB) as preparations for the 2027 Hajj pilgrimage gain momentum.

Officials from both agencies met separately with the management of the Pilgrims Board in Abeokuta, emphasizing the critical need for early planning, effective coordination, and comprehensive sensitisation of intending pilgrims. The Ogun State Comptroller of Immigration, Ganiyu Oladele, assured the OGMPWB, led by its Executive Secretary, Taiwo Ajibola, that the NIS would prioritise timely passport processing for the 2027 Hajj operations. Oladele stressed that proactive preparation and inter-agency cooperation are vital to averting potential challenges during the pilgrimage and commended the Board for its coordination efforts.

Ajibola described the NIS as an indispensable partner in Hajj administration and expressed appreciation for the command's past support. He called for a more robust partnership focused on improving information sharing, streamlining passport documentation, and enhancing services for prospective pilgrims. The Executive Secretary also reiterated the Board's dedication to educating pilgrims on the importance of obtaining valid travel documents well in advance of the exercise.

In parallel, the Ogun State Command of the NDLEA pledged to bolster its partnership with the Pilgrims Board by providing essential education and guidance to intending pilgrims regarding the severe dangers and legal ramifications associated with illicit drug trafficking. State Commander of NDLEA, Tijani Rabe, highlighted the importance of this collaboration in ensuring pilgrims are fully aware of drug-related offences under both Nigerian and Saudi Arabian laws. Rabe cautioned pilgrims to remain vigilant and avoid any actions that could lead to legal trouble or tarnish Nigeria's international image.

He assured the Board that the NDLEA would deploy personnel to educate pilgrims on drug-related matters and the necessity of adhering to all relevant regulations. Ajibola acknowledged the NDLEA's ongoing support and commitment to pilgrims' education, noting that preparations for the 2027 Hajj have already begun. He urged the NDLEA to remain actively involved in the planning stages to guarantee pilgrims receive adequate guidance before their departure.
