Osun State Governor, H.E Ademola Adeleke, has travelled out of Nigeria for a vacation in Europe, while directing the state government to investigate the emerging kingship dispute in Koka Ilase, Obokun Local Government Area.

According to a statement signed by Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Spokesperson to the Osun State Governor, Adeleke departed the country through the Lagos airport on Sunday and is expected to visit the United Kingdom and other destinations during the trip.

The governor is also scheduled to undergo medical examinations as part of the vacation.

Speaking before his departure, Adeleke said the break was intended to allow him to refresh and return better prepared to continue his responsibilities as governor.

Meanwhile, the governor has directed the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to investigate reports surrounding the appointment of another monarch in Koka Ilase.

The development has reportedly raised concerns over the emergence of two individuals laying claim to the traditional stool of the community.

Adeleke ordered the ministry to review the circumstances surrounding the reported appointment and ensure that due process is followed in accordance with the state’s chieftaincy laws and the traditions of the people.

He further urged all stakeholders to remain calm and peaceful while the investigation is ongoing.

According to him, the government would uphold the law and respect the traditional institutions and customs of the people of Osun State.

Kingship is governed by extant laws and regulations and the government will stand by the law and tradition of our people, Adeleke said.

The directive is expected to provide clarity on the reported emergence of another monarch and help prevent further escalation of the dispute.
