The newly elected leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, Joint Campus Council, JCC, Osun Axis, has provided a fresh update on developments following the August 28 incident involving late Ademiju Ayeni, popularly known as Jago, saying his family has decided not to pursue the case further.

The development was contained in an official memorandum dated September 1, 2026, signed by NANS JCC Osun Chairman-elect Comr. Kehinde Ayokunle Temiloluwa, popularly known as Kaywhytee; General Secretary-elect Comr. Odewale Favour, Oladex; and Public Relations Officer-elect Comr. Adediran Okikijesu, Okiki.

According to the memorandum, members of the newly elected executive visited the Dada Estate Police Division, Olorunsogo, Osogbo, on August 31 as part of engagements with security authorities over the circumstances surrounding Jago’s death.

Members of the immediate past NANS JCC Osun Caretaker Committee, which handled the convention and transition process, were also present during the police engagement.

The new leadership said its involvement was not intended to interfere with the police investigation, but to show solidarity with the bereaved family and seek a proper investigation into what happened.

During the meeting with the Divisional Police Officer, the delegation reportedly requested a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.

The DPO, according to the memorandum, assured the delegation that the matter was being handled through the appropriate procedures.

NANS JCC Osun said the police also informed its representatives that investigators were working with the statement made by the complainant when the deceased was brought to the police station.

The matter was subsequently transferred from the Dada Estate Police Division to the State Criminal Investigation Department, State CID, Osogbo, for further investigation and necessary action, the association said.

Following the transfer, however, NANS JCC Osun said the family of the deceased communicated that it no longer wished to pursue the case and wanted Jago’s body released to enable it to proceed with burial arrangements.

The leadership stressed that the decision came solely from the bereaved family.

“The decision to withdraw the case was solely that of the deceased’s family,” the memorandum stated.

NANS JCC Osun maintained that neither the newly elected leadership nor other student leaders pressured, compelled or influenced the family to take the decision.

According to the memorandum, arrangements were subsequently initiated for the release of Jago’s remains in line with the family’s request.

His body was scheduled to be handed over to the family at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 1, after which burial arrangements were expected to proceed at Ada, along Ire Road.

The association did not state in the memorandum that the scheduled release had already been completed.

The latest development follows days of conflicting accounts surrounding Jago’s death after the NANS JCC Osun convention held on August 28.

NANS Southwest Zone D had earlier maintained following its own fact-finding that no student was stabbed or killed inside the controlled convention premises, while calling for investigators to establish the circumstances surrounding Jago’s movements and eventual death.

The newly elected JCC leadership, in its latest memorandum, described the August 28 incident as having occurred outside the convention venue, while reiterating its support for a proper investigation.

It said the delegation's police engagement was aimed at ensuring that the interests of the student community were protected while respecting law enforcement procedures.

The leadership also expressed condolences to Jago’s family, friends and members of the wider student community.

It appealed to students, student leaders and members of the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information capable of creating further tension.

NANS JCC Osun said it would continue to monitor developments responsibly while respecting the wishes of the deceased’s family and the procedures of the relevant authorities.

The leadership also thanked security authorities and members of the immediate past JCC leadership for their engagement and cooperation.

It reiterated its commitment to students’ welfare, justice, peace, accountability and responsible leadership, pledging to operate within the law while promoting unity within the Osun student community.
