President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed relief over the successful rescue of 15 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members and six other Nigerians who were abducted last week in Kogi State.

In a statement personally signed on Monday, August 31, 2026, Tinubu said he was “delighted” that all 21 abducted Nigerians had regained their freedom.

The victims, comprising eight males and 13 females, were rescued from the Egume-Ochaja forest axis in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State in a coordinated search-and-rescue operation involving the military, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS) and local vigilantes.

Tinubu commended the security personnel involved in the operation for their courage, professionalism and successful recovery of the victims.

The President also directed security agencies to maintain pressure on the fleeing kidnappers and sustain the manhunt until those responsible for the abduction are apprehended. He warned that the perpetrators and anyone who aided the crime would face the full weight of the law.

He further assured the families of the rescued corps members that his administration remains committed to protecting Nigerians and ensuring the safety of NYSC members serving across the country.

The rescued victims are receiving medical attention before being reunited with their families.
