Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has dissolved and immediately reconstituted the Governing Council of Osun State University, UNIOSUN, retaining Prof. Adewale Abiodun Oladipo as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman.

The state government announced the decision on Friday, August 28, saying the restructuring was intended to strengthen the university’s governance and prevent any gap in its administration.

Oladipo, who headed the dissolved council, will continue in the same position under the newly constituted body.

Other members of the new Governing Council are Alhaji Gbadegesin Lawal, Otunba Titi Laoye-Ponnle, Akinola Franklin Omoniyi, Chief Funminiyi Awotide, Orija Samuel Adebayo and Adewale Adetayo Bola.

Adeleke charged the council to sustain the achievements recorded by the institution and work with the university management to drive further innovation and development.

The governor said the reconstitution was aimed at ensuring continuity in the operations of the university while strengthening its governance structure.

The newly constituted council is scheduled to be inaugurated on Monday, August 31, 2026.

Oladipo is a Professor of Nuclear Chemistry at the Centre for Energy Research and Development, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

He has previously served as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the UNIOSUN Governing Council and will continue to lead the institution’s highest governing body following the latest reconstitution.

The university’s Alumni Association has also welcomed the new council and urged its members to consolidate UNIOSUN’s academic achievements.

The association pledged its support for the council and called for continued attention to academic excellence and institutional development.

The reconstitution comes as activities at the state-owned university continue to attract public attention, placing the new council at the centre of decisions affecting the institution’s administration and development.

The council is expected to formally begin its new tenure after Monday’s inauguration.
