Indigenes of Ogbomoso in Oyo State have petitioned Governor Seyi Makinde over an alleged plan by the state government to allocate a local farm settlement to private developers. Operating under the umbrella of Egbe Omo Ogbomoso Parapo, the residents rejected the move, stating that it would destroy the legacies of the premiers of the defunct Western Region, late Chief Obafemi Awolowo and late Chief Samuel Akintola.

The petition was signed by the chairman of the association, Prince Aderemi Olude, and the secretary, Mr. Johnson Adekunle. Copies of the document were sent to several authorities, including the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, the Federal Ministry of Lands and Urban Development, the Inspector General of Police, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, the Police Area Commander in Ogbomoso, and the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Afolabi Olaoye.

According to the association, the land was originally earmarked as a farm settlement in the early 1960s and has sustained generations of residents as a major means of livelihood and a shared commonwealth. The group stated that investigations revealed the allocation plan was active after affected farm settlers confirmed recent incursions by state government surveyors onto the land.

The petition noted that many settlers have spent over sixty years farming the land and are fiercely opposed to the takeover. The indigenes urged the state government to revitalise the existing agricultural facilities on the property rather than handing the land over to private investors, describing the purported reallocation as an unacceptable undertaking.
