The development comes after the party’s legal team had been reported to have filed a petition challenging Governor Ademola Adeleke’s victory in the August 15 governorship election.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has withdrawn its petition challenging the re-election of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, in the August 15, 2026 governorship election.

The withdrawal was made on Tuesday at the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Osogbo by the lawyer who filed the petition on behalf of the APC and its governorship candidate.

The development effectively removes the petition from the tribunal's proceedings, although questions surrounding the circumstances of the filing and subsequent withdrawal have generated political interest in the state.

The APC had earlier constituted a legal team to examine the outcome of the election after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke the winner.

The development followed reports that both the APC and PDP had initially filed petitions challenging Adeleke's victory. The petitions were displayed at the tribunal secretariat in Osogbo as the election litigation process commenced.

The latest withdrawal, however, means the APC's challenge will no longer proceed on the basis of the withdrawn petition.

Adeleke, who contested under the Accord Party, was declared winner of the August 15 election after defeating his major challengers.

The election has remained a major political issue in Osun, particularly because of the intense contest between the Accord and APC and the wider political implications of the result ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The withdrawal of the APC petition is therefore expected to alter the legal and political landscape surrounding the election, while any remaining petition will continue to be handled in accordance with the electoral dispute resolution process.
