The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, Southwest Zone D, has commended the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilesa, Prof. Taiwo Olufemi Asaolu, following what the association described as the successful reinstatement of previously affected students and the resolution of prolonged NYSC mobilisation challenges involving some graduates.

In a statement dated September 7, 2026, NANS Southwest Coordinator, Comr. Adeyemo Josiah Kayode, popularly known as Billioncodes, said the developments followed earlier engagements with the university management over the academic status of some students and difficulties preventing some graduates from progressing to the National Youth Service Corps.

According to the association, some of the students had previously been affected by rustication, while Adedoyin Temitope, popularly known as Aregbe, and other graduates had faced prolonged delays connected to NYSC mobilisation.

Adeyemo said he had earlier engaged Prof. Asaolu directly over the cases and received assurances that the circumstances surrounding the affected students would be reconsidered.

NANS Southwest said the affected students were subsequently reinstated.

The association also said it had now received confirmation from the Directorate of Student Affairs that Adedoyin Temitope and other affected graduates had been successfully uploaded to the NYSC Senate List.

For the student body, the development represents the resolution of issues that had created uncertainty over the academic and post-graduation future of those affected.

Adeyemo praised the Vice-Chancellor for what he described as a willingness to listen to student concerns and reconsider decisions where necessary.

He said student leadership should not restrict itself to criticising institutions when disputes arise but should equally acknowledge university administrators when concerns raised through dialogue produce positive outcomes.

“A promise made to students has become a promise kept,” the NANS Southwest Coordinator said.

The association also commended the university management, Directorate of Student Affairs and other officials who it said contributed to resolving the issues.

NANS Southwest congratulated the affected students, particularly Adedoyin Temitope, and urged them to make responsible use of the opportunity as they move to the next stage of their lives.

The association said the outcome had strengthened its confidence in constructive engagement between university authorities and organised student leadership.

Prof. Asaolu currently serves as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilesa, an Osun State-owned institution.

The latest statement also marks a shift from confrontation to acknowledgement, with NANS Southwest publicly recognising the university management after earlier interventions concerning the affected students.

The association expressed hope that dialogue between students and management would continue to provide a peaceful route for resolving future disputes.
