The Ekiti State Police Command and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have pledged their backing for the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in its campaign against quackery and professional impersonation in the state.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Michael Falade, and the FRSC Sector Commander, Sanya Adeoye, made the commitments during separate courtesy visits by an NUJ delegation in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday.

Falade assured the union that the police would provide necessary support to the NUJ Anti-Quackery Task Force. He stated that the collaboration aims to clamp down on non-professionals who impersonate journalists and engage in practices that undermine the credibility of the media.

The police commissioner commended journalists in the state for their professionalism and cooperation in disseminating security information and creating public awareness on crime prevention. He reiterated the command's commitment to maintaining an open-door policy and working with the media within the legal framework.

In his remarks, the FRSC Sector Commander, Sanya Adeoye, lauded the media for consistently sensitising the public on road safety and proper road usage.

Adeoye pledged the readiness of the corps to assist the union in checking the indiscriminate use of NUJ press stickers on vehicles. He noted that the partnership would help fish out impostors who exploit press insignia to carry out illicit activities.

Earlier, the NUJ delegation, led by Vice Chairman Olayinka Ilori and Anti-Quackery Committee Chairman Abiodun Olofe, had solicited the intervention of both security and safety agencies to enforce order and rid the profession of fake practitioners.
